~I’m Tyce

“I’m walkin’ in now, thanks Mr. Tandinni.”

I slid my phone in the back pocket of my jeans as I walked with an even pace up to the huge maplewood double doors of a Beverly Hills mansion. I carried with me confidence, endless swag, and cold hard cash and a large leather satchel riding over my shoulder. Before I had a chance to ring the doorbell, the entrance swung open smoothly and a man with short cropped white hair and cool brown eyes greeted me.

“Welcome to the Adamski residence Mr. Adkins, Mr. Adamski and Mr. Delgato are waiting for you in the study if you would please follow me I will show you the way.” He moved to the side and gestured toward the inside of the expansive house.

“Thank you, lead the way.”

I stepped into the grand vestibule and placed the soles of my spanking new black Jordan’s on exquisite vanilla marble floors. I rocked a matching light fabric sweater with the sleeves pulled up around my forearms as a diamond studded white gold watch twinkling every five seconds as I swung my arm in time with my smooth gait. I followed my polite guide straight ahead right down the center of two identical winding staircases twisting above me. A red carpet which seemed like it was as long as a football field was our yellow brick road. I stayed on that path right behind the butler until we reached the rear of the house. The man took a sharp right turn and we came upon the already open doors of the impressive study.

“Sir’s your guest has arrived.”

He motioned to me with one manicured hand before he quickly excused himself and walked away silently. The two men were sitting down playing a game of chess as I walked in. They stood up upon my entrance and broke the ice with big smiles. Avi spoke first as he crossed the room and shook my hand vigorously.

“Ahhh Tyce, I’m Avi-you don’t mind if I call you Tyce do you? Last names are so informal and distant and after all I assume we are going to be great friends and even greater business partners. This is my associate Miguel, his last name is Delgato but like I said last names are for strangers.”

I gave him a firm grip. “No I don’t mind if you call me Tyce, I actually prefer that, I hate it when people call me Mr. Adkins. it’s nice to meet you Avi and you as well Miguel.”

Miguel pointed to a seating area in the corner. “The pleasure is mine amigo, why don’t we talk over there it’s more comfortable, besides, I’m sure Avi is tired of losing to me in chess…he could use a break.” He stroked his short neat beard as he walked toward a leather sofa.

Avi removed his thin prescription glasses from his narrow face and waved a small hand in the air like he was swatting flies.

“Don’t listen to that nonsense, I choose to let him think he’s winning and just when he gets comfortable bang…I lower the boom.
